What engine options are available on the 2019 Mazda CX-5?
As we have seen on past models, the base engine on the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is a 187-horsepower, SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine with Cylinder Deactivation. What’s new this year is a turbocharged option. The Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trim levels come fitted with a 250-horsepower, SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with Dynamic Pressure Turbo. The base engine can be paired with either front-wheel drive or i-ACTIV AWD® while the turbocharged engine only comes with i-ACTIV AWD®. All models, regardless of the engine, come with a SKYACTIV®-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift and Sport Mode. The base engine contributes to up to 31 highway mpg while the turbocharged engine contributes to 27 highway mpg. So, if you don’t mind sacrificing a bit of efficiency, some extra horsepower will be well worth it.
